John is an armchair philosopher. But as he’ll tell you himself, he does sometimes think about other things, as well as armchairs. He thinks quite a lot about soup too.
He lives with his Mum, Dad & Gran on a council estate in West Yorkshire. Most people take one look at John and write him off. His Dad doesn’t even need to look at him. His mad Gran is too busy building a full-scale paper mache hippopotamus in the front room to even notice what’s going on (or so we at first believe).
But John’s Mum still believes hes special… in a good way! Everyone else thinks she’s crazy, but she has an unwavering faith that, even though he’s in his thirties, one day, John will prove everyone wrong.
Is John the waste-of-space that everyone thinks he is, or is he just lacking confidence? Is he stupid, or does he make no effort because he’s terrified of failure almost as much as he is of success? Is what you see what you get, or is their a genius multi-skilled alter-ego hovering just under the surface?
Only time will tell.
